Welcome to High Balsam Farm - a 1-acre urban farm right here in Lakewood - specializing in mushroom cultivation and permaculture. Our tour will offer guests a chance to learn about growing mushrooms indoors and outdoors, as well as sustainable permaculture practices in an urban environment. Tour guests will be included in learning on culture inoculation, substrate and grain processes and mushroom fruiting conditions.
Take a behind-the-scenes look at our mushroom lab and find out how you can do it, too! I addition, we will show you around the dynamic terrain of the farm including the 1300 row feet of growing space, offer veggies, greens and herbs to share, We are unique in that we utilize permaculture practices such as Hugelculture, soil regeneration, water conservation as well as using mycelium to heal the soil, water and prevent erosion. Each tour features a unique seasonal offering such as cut your own greens, flower bouquet, fresh mushrooms or special treat to take away!
